It was another busy weekend for our underage teams, with the Pat Lawler Tournament hosted in Annacotty and two of our underage teams competing in competitions. Away to neighbours Old Crescent for this fixture with both teams having fared well in their respective opening salvos a couple of weeks previously. Conditions were mixed, a typical autumnal Irish affair, not too fond of the weather, just wait five minutes as they say. Our U13 boys took part in The Annual Pat Lawler Cup & Shield Tournament last Saturday in Annacotty. This is a tournament which UL Bohemian RFC host each year to honour of the late Pat Lawler. With over 15 teams participating, Annacotty was buzzing with underage rugby for both boys and girls. Our Red Robins travelled West to play Galwegians in the second round of the Women’s AIL and secured a bonus point win with a final score of 43 points to 7. This weekend sees the 38th Annual Pat Lawler Tournament take place on Saturday, in the UL Bohemian RFC grounds in Annacotty. This tournament keeps alive the memory of a very special player who played for what was then Bohemian RFC before his life was tragically cut short. It’s a welcome beginning of a return to normality for us as last year COVID-19 caused us to not be able to run what was until that point, an annual event. UL Bohemian RFC Club will make history next weekend with the club fielding a U20s team, AIL Men’s team, AIL Women’s Team and a 2nds Women’s team all in the one weekend. Our Underage Robins had two competition games & one friendly game last weekend with our U13s, U15s and U18.5 all out in action. The U13 played their 3rd match of the season on Sunday morning in Clarisford Park & in good conditions, against a well organized Ballina/Killaloe side. This local derby did not fail to be entertaining for rugby fans. Friday night lights always has the potential for a great game and that it was, although our Robins were not the right side of the score line.
