This weekend sees the 38th Annual Pat Lawler Tournament take place on Saturday, in the UL Bohemian RFC grounds in Annacotty. This tournament keeps alive the memory of a very special player who played for what was then Bohemian RFC before his life was tragically cut short.
It’s a welcome beginning of a return to normality for us as last year COVID-19 caused us to not be able to run what was until that point, an annual event.
We anticipate a strong competition this year based on the teams taking part. The teams will play in pools of 2 with teams progressing to play off for Bowl, Shield and Cup competitions.
This results in a wonderful day of youth rugby for both players and spectators. This promises to be a festival of rugby with no doubt some of those playing going on to represent their province and country.
You only have to look at the teams that have won the Cup previously and names like Andrew Trimble, Ronan O’Gara, Keith Earls, Tom Tierney, Peter Stringer and Duncan Williams appear among the list of rugby luminaries who have graced this tournament in the past.
As mentioned this is the beginning of a return to normality so there will not be the same numbers of teams taking part as previous years with common sense dictating that we restrict participation to other North Munster teams. Being the stronghold of rugby that Limerick is there are many clubs represented with on the day with the full list being:
Boy’s | Girl’s |
Bruff RFC | Bruff RFC |
Nenagh RFC | Ennis RFC |
Old Crescent RFC | Garryowen RFC |
St Mary RFC | Shannon RFC |
Ballina- Killaloe RFC | UL Bohemian RFC |
Ennis RFC | |
Garryowen RFC | |
Newcastlewest RFC | |

Kick off is at 10:30. It should be a fantastic day out, so if you can get down to Annacotty at all please do so and support this great event.
