Match Report from Sporting Limerick Charity Cup game vs Nenagh Ormond RFC Saturday 4th September 2021
UL Bohemian RFC kick off the season with a win in the first round of the Sporting Limerick Charity Cup vs Nenagh Ormond on Saturday 4th September.
These two sides are well known to each other and as expected it was a tough start with the game remaining scoreless until after the first water break. UL Bohemian opened the scoring with a try by our captain Paul Clancy. Nenagh did not take long after this to get on the score board with a penalty kick to make it 5-3.
The competitive rugby continued till half time with both sides bring a huge level of physicality to keep the game to 5-3.
UL Bohemian came out in the second half and did not take long to add to their score in the first half making it 12-3 with a try from Oisin Fagan and following on from this Barry Richardson found the corner to extend the lead for the visitors.
Nenagh where not going let UL Bohemian build a lead and just before the water break got in for a try under the posters making it 17 – 10. With a great passage of play by Bohs Paul Clancy got on to the score card and the conversion made it 24 -10 with not long left to go.
Just as we thought the game was over Fagan crossed the line following an inventive cross field kick from Alan Kiely leaving UL Bohemian coming away with the win 29 – 10.
Match Report from Transfield Cup game vs Thomond RFC Sunday 5th September 2021
The effort given by the Blues team on Sunday in our Transfield Cup game could not be faulted. For many lads this was their first game in well over a year, for others, close to two years. While we came out on the wrong side of the scoreboard, we can be very proud of the attitude shown by the whole squad.
We had a dominant pack that were unfortunate not generate more penalties and put more points on the board. With many guys playing out of position in the backline, We still managed to create some great chances, that we just couldn’t finish. This is a great lesson for the whole squad. We came up against a very solid Thomond squad who just have a few more games under their belt this season, and they finished the game out well.
Hard luck to captain Dave Kinane who put in a serious shift despite not being 100%, and also to many of our guys who doubled up from the Charity Cup win on Saturday. Disappointing loss, but we’ll be happy with the performance on the whole. Lots of work to do though!
Final Score Thomond RFC 17 – 9 UL Bohemian RFC
