360…. the number of days since the last and only league outing and things have certainly, finally come full circle for these young lads….
In the sunshine of Annacotty, UL Bohemian RFC welcomed a fiery Newcastle West side for this fixture which proved to be spicy, peppered with two sides who went toe to toe from start to finish.
The opening period saw UL Bohemian RFC in the ascendancy holding field advantage for a sustained period resulting in a try through the hands deftly put away by the effervescent Evan Boland.
The away side got back into it with a fine move culminating in a converted try, young Josh O’Connor touching down for what would prove to be the away sides scoring in the contest.
At half time there was a bit of work required in the home dressing room to tidy up in some areas.
On resumption of the battle, Ben O’Connell scored the first of two tries with fine running off good ruck ball with the pack pitching in to retain possession.
The forwards featured well with good ruck work from the likes of Cillian O’Neill and in the breakdown, carries from Michael Landers and Brian Lane and tackling from Marin Hourigan. Tasty contributions from Eoin O’Sullivan, T.J. Keogh, Jack Meegan and Rowan Guinan added to the mix.
The lads continued to fire off the line demonstrated ably by Lee Hogan and Cillian Lacey with textbook tackling from Brendan Morrissey.
Next up was the dancing feet of Cormac Devitt which proved too elusive, and he finished with aplomb.
Sean O’Riordan skipped in off the inside shoulder, reward for his hard work all day around the pitch, followed up by the boundless Ben O’Connell full of direct running.
Oran Gilroy plied his trade at nine with aplomb, Donagh Vaughan put in a shift on the wing with Eoin Williams enjoying the fifteen jersey.
Evan Boland finished off the scoring with a bit of time left on the clock, backing himself to score a wingers try.
Overall, both teams never backed down throughout and are to be commended for their spirit whatever the result.
